A Message From Jocelyn and Berkley Nozak

Hello Everybody! My name is Jocelyn (JJ). My sister, Berkley, and I go to school at The Little Light House! Our mommy has worked at our school for the past 11 years, and we have both been attending since we were 6 weeks old. Before I get into all the great things about our school, let me tell you a little bit about us. I am JJ and I am 4 years old. I love being a big sister, as I love both helping Berkley and bossing her around. I enjoy learning at school, playing with my friends, getting my nails done at the salon, reading my bible every night before bedtime, taking ballet classes, and being silly. I am quite comical and love laughing! My sister, Berkley, is 2 years old. She is quite different than me, as she loves to be independent. Although, she is just as silly as me! She loves to sing and dance, loves her blankies, and absolutely loves swimming and playing in the water at splash pads! We get along great and are excited that we are going to both be big sisters to a baby brother come this February! We also love going to school with mommy every day. We have great friends and are learning so much! Our school is for children age birth to six years old with special needs. Even though we do not have special needs, we get to attend this awesome school since our mommy works there. We have very important roles in being peer models for our friends, to help them learn to walk or talk or do things like us! This year I (JJ) am in the Orange Class and my sister, Berkley, is in the Blue class. We each will have 11 other friends in our classroom that we will get to learn and grow with together. We will be learning about the bible with our Bible Based Curriculum, learning pre-writing skills, language skills, gross and fine motor skills, and more! It sounds like a lot of work, but our school makes it all fun with play activities! Now that you know a little about us and the school we attend, I want to share how YOU can help! You see, it costs a lot of money for our school to run. There are lots of expenses with the building, the equipment my friends need, the education and therapy they receive, and more. My school doesn’t get any money from the government or United Way. All of the money we get comes from individual and corporate donors. The coolest part is that the school is free for all my friends!! Their parents have lots of expenses with their medical needs, so my school is awesome in helping them get education and therapy services absolutely FREE! This event, “Mini-Laps”, is what we are participating in to help support their mission. Our theme is “Made in Oklahoma” this year! We get to dress up in costume and go around the track at our school one time and show off the new skills we’ve been learning. Mommy is actually in charge of this event. Did you know her job is to put on all the fundraising events and that these events bring in about 45% of the annual budget. Now its our turn to help mommy and our school. We need people to sponsor us when we make our laps…that’s where YOU come in! If you would like to make a donation, you can give a check to my parents (made out to TLLH) before Tuesday, October 8th. You can also send it in the mail to the Little Light House at 5120 E. 36th St Tulsa, OK 74135 or make a donation directly here on our webpage! Make sure you tell them our names if you send in a check so they will know that you are sponsoring us. Because our school is a 501(c)(3) organization, your contribution is tax deductible… whatever that means! Feel free to come watch us take our lap on October 12th! Thank you very much for supporting our school! Love, Jocelyn June & Berkley McKenna Nozak

In Support of Little Light House

Little Light House is a Christian Developmental Center for Children with Special Needs from birth to 6 years old. Tulsa’s Little Light House is internationally recognized as providing some of the most individualized special education and therapeutic early intervention services in the world. A trans-disciplinary team approach maximizes a comprehensive knowledge from professionals who work collaboratively to design prescriptive programs for each child and assist every child in reaching their maximum potential. Through a variety of programs and schedules, these services are carried out by highly credentialed teachers, therapists, and specialists who represent decades of pediatric experience. Early Intervention classes are provided as a part-time program where caregivers attend and learn along with their child for two-hour classes once a week.

Little Light House is tuition-free for families and does not receive government or United Way funding. Support comes from individuals, organizations, corporations, and foundations. In addition, LLH hosts four annual fundraisers each year bringing in about 40% of the $4.2 million dollar operating cost that allows our staff of over 90 members to provide services to over 300 children and families, support nearly a thousand volunteers, and train over 1,000 college and career students each year.

Little Light House believes that all children are a gift from God with the potential to achieve specific milestones to advance their quality of life. We strive for excellence by utilizing a Bible-based curriculum in a fun and loving atmosphere. We believe in an individualized, trans-disciplinary and God-centered approach to education-an approach that joins parents, professionals, and the Holy Spirit as partners in order to nurture the spirit, mind, and body of the children and their families. Our commitment incorporates being called to work/volunteer with children with special needs. Little Light House encourages a positive outlook on the future, based on trust in a loving heavenly Father.
