A Message From Ivey Corner

Hi everybody it’s Ivey. I came into this world fighting hard to stay. And I haven’t stopped fighting since. My Mommy calls me a warrior princess because I am so strong and sweet. I have cerebral palsy and Kidney disease. I also have a little feeding button where I used to get all of my food from. I fought hard to learn how to eat and now I only use my Mic-key button for all of my medicines and to burp (I’m a dainty little lady and I can’t burp out of my mouth). I can only use my right hand and I have trouble walking. I wear orthotics on my foot and they hurt sometimes but they also help me walk better. Everyday things can be very difficult for me. But I don’t let much get me down!! I love to laugh and play and snuggle my mommy. I have been sheltered my whole life and I haven’t been able to see much of the world or play with friends. But all of that is changing. I get to go to a very special school for children with very special needs! I was on the waiting list for years and It’s finally my turn!! The Little Lighthouse will be my new school!! They have special teachers and therapists to help all the little kids like me. My Mommy is so excited!! I will finally get to have friends and learn fun new things in a safe place!! Most private schools make the parents pay tuition. But not LLH. I get to go there for free!! It costs a lot of money to get all of the things we need at my school. They don’t get any money from the government or United way. All of the money we receive comes from individuals or corporate donors. Since I’m too little to get a job I have a way to raise money for my school so little kids like me can keep going here. My school has a “Mini-Laps” race that I can do. I get to go around the track at LLH one time. Some kids go around the track in wheelchairs or scooters. Some get to ride in wagons. It will be so much fun!! I hope you can come watch me on October 12th. I need people to sponsor me when I make my lap so I can help my school. If you would like to make a donation, you can give a check to my Mom (made our to TLLH) before October 12th. You can also send it in the mail to The Little Lighthouse at 5120 E. 36th St. Tulsa, Ok. 74135 or make a donation here on my webpage! Make sure you tell them my name, Ivey Corner, so they will know that you are sponsoring me. Because my school is a 501(C)(3) organization, your contribution is tax deductible. Thank you for reading my story and helping my school!!!

In Support of Little Light House

Little Light House is a Christian Developmental Center for Children with Special Needs from birth to 6 years old. Tulsa’s Little Light House is internationally recognized as providing some of the most individualized special education and therapeutic early intervention services in the world. A trans-disciplinary team approach maximizes a comprehensive knowledge from professionals who work collaboratively to design prescriptive programs for each child and assist every child in reaching their maximum potential. Through a variety of programs and schedules, these services are carried out by highly credentialed teachers, therapists, and specialists who represent decades of pediatric experience. Early Intervention classes are provided as a part-time program where caregivers attend and learn along with their child for two-hour classes once a week.

Little Light House is tuition-free for families and does not receive government or United Way funding. Support comes from individuals, organizations, corporations, and foundations. In addition, LLH hosts four annual fundraisers each year bringing in about 40% of the $4.2 million dollar operating cost that allows our staff of over 90 members to provide services to over 300 children and families, support nearly a thousand volunteers, and train over 1,000 college and career students each year.

Little Light House believes that all children are a gift from God with the potential to achieve specific milestones to advance their quality of life. We strive for excellence by utilizing a Bible-based curriculum in a fun and loving atmosphere. We believe in an individualized, trans-disciplinary and God-centered approach to education-an approach that joins parents, professionals, and the Holy Spirit as partners in order to nurture the spirit, mind, and body of the children and their families. Our commitment incorporates being called to work/volunteer with children with special needs. Little Light House encourages a positive outlook on the future, based on trust in a loving heavenly Father.
