A Message From Jack Swain

Howdy, Partner! You found me! OK! We've got some work to do! As you already know, I go to school at a very special place... The Little Light House! I was on the waiting list to go to this school for over two years! Last fall, LLH opened the doors to the newly-expanded facility and lucky for me I was able to begin school in the Yellow Class! Most of my friends and I who go to school here have special needs. Some of us are medically fragile, some of us use wheelchairs to move around, some of us are non-verbal, some of us have global developmental delays, some of us are children of staff who are part of our inclusion program! One thing we all have in common is that when we enter the doors of The Little Light House we are showered with more powerful love, hope, encouragement and cutting edge resources than we could ever imagine possible! Because of the teachers, assistants, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, assistive technology, nurses and staff who are assigned to the team of every one of us - we thrive. Just this year: 🔹17 students moved from needing help moving around the room to being independent. 🔹28 students moved from being a listener in conversation to talking. 🔹23 students began using technology to "talk" to others. (Hey! That's me!) 🔹42% of LLH students had an increased tolerance to noises, lights or textures. (Me again!) 🔹27 students moved from dependent feeding to independent feeding. 🔹28 students moved from playing alone to playing with friends. 🔹32 students moved from diapering to using the toilet. 🔹46 students demonstrated age-appropriate developmental milestones. It takes hard work for us to accomplish goals that come easy for typically developing kids. Please consider helping me raise money for this special place Tulsa has to offer children with special needs. The Little Light House, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, is not a United Way agency and receives no state or federal funding. All services are provided on a tuition-free basis. Funding for The Little Light House comes solely from contributions and fund raising events. Any contribution you share with us will be tax deductible. Talk to my mom about all the ways to give - especially if you are interested in receiving not just a deduction but a tax CREDIT for your donation or want to split your donation out into easy monthly contributions. If you would consider talking to a company you know who might be willing to sponsor me this year we have tons of options! We are so thankful for you. Please come out and join me at Mini Laps on Saturday October 12th from 10am-1pm! This year's theme is OKLAHOMA!

In Support of Little Light House

Little Light House is a Christian Developmental Center for Children with Special Needs from birth to 6 years old. Tulsa’s Little Light House is internationally recognized as providing some of the most individualized special education and therapeutic early intervention services in the world. A trans-disciplinary team approach maximizes a comprehensive knowledge from professionals who work collaboratively to design prescriptive programs for each child and assist every child in reaching their maximum potential. Through a variety of programs and schedules, these services are carried out by highly credentialed teachers, therapists, and specialists who represent decades of pediatric experience. Early Intervention classes are provided as a part-time program where caregivers attend and learn along with their child for two-hour classes once a week.

Little Light House is tuition-free for families and does not receive government or United Way funding. Support comes from individuals, organizations, corporations, and foundations. In addition, LLH hosts four annual fundraisers each year bringing in about 40% of the $4.2 million dollar operating cost that allows our staff of over 90 members to provide services to over 300 children and families, support nearly a thousand volunteers, and train over 1,000 college and career students each year.

Little Light House believes that all children are a gift from God with the potential to achieve specific milestones to advance their quality of life. We strive for excellence by utilizing a Bible-based curriculum in a fun and loving atmosphere. We believe in an individualized, trans-disciplinary and God-centered approach to education-an approach that joins parents, professionals, and the Holy Spirit as partners in order to nurture the spirit, mind, and body of the children and their families. Our commitment incorporates being called to work/volunteer with children with special needs. Little Light House encourages a positive outlook on the future, based on trust in a loving heavenly Father.
