A Message From Lakyn Jo Thomas

Hello everyone! My name is Lakyn Jo! I am currently a student at the Little Lighthouse in the new Coral Class. That is right! A new class! Last year we were able to raise enough money to renovate our old building and add two new classes! Let’s keep it up! My school the LLH is an amazing school that helps teach us that disabilities are not limitations. We are all equal! My school is a special school for special kids like myself that is ran off donations so my mommy and daddy do not have to stress about paying tuition! They get to relax knowing that I am in great hands at an amazing school all because of amazing people like you who help keep it that way for them! This school is not only great for me but it is an amazing place for my parents to get support and encouragement when they are needing it. At the LLH we are all family here and are there for one another. Please let’s continue to keep our tuition free for our families and Continue to help our school improve. Please feel in your heart to donate to this amazing school. It has been one of the best blessing for me and my friends at the Little Light House! MORE ABOUT LAKYN JO: Lakyn Jo is a beautiful 5yr old little girl! At the age of 2 she was diagnosed with a very rare genetic mutation called DNM1. As far as we know there are only 30 cases in the world that has ever been documented. Lakyn Jo was the 5th case in the world to ever be documented. Lakyn Jo has severe epilepsy and hypotonia (Low muscle tone disorder) which causes delays. Lakyn Jo does not walk, crawl or talk BUT that does not slow her down! She is very strong minded and has this sass to her that shines! She enjoys swinging, eating, music, reading her bible with mommy and being right by her big sisters side. The LLH has helped her tremendously. (Remember the smallest accomplishments are the biggest with our special kiddos). Lakyn Jo has learned how to sit in a chair while having good head control, she has learned and still learning how to participate in events with large crowds and noises, she tolerates tummy time so much more to also help with head control and core strengthening and just sooooo much more! Lakyn Jo has had very many set back in her life but with her urge to strive and with the help of the LLH, her family and her team of doctors/specialists/therapists we make alway make a comeback!

In Support of Little Light House

Little Light House is a Christian Developmental Center for Children with Special Needs from birth to 6 years old. Tulsa’s Little Light House is internationally recognized as providing some of the most individualized special education and therapeutic early intervention services in the world. A trans-disciplinary team approach maximizes a comprehensive knowledge from professionals who work collaboratively to design prescriptive programs for each child and assist every child in reaching their maximum potential. Through a variety of programs and schedules, these services are carried out by highly credentialed teachers, therapists, and specialists who represent decades of pediatric experience. Early Intervention classes are provided as a part-time program where caregivers attend and learn along with their child for two-hour classes once a week.

Little Light House is tuition-free for families and does not receive government or United Way funding. Support comes from individuals, organizations, corporations, and foundations. In addition, LLH hosts four annual fundraisers each year bringing in about 40% of the $4.2 million dollar operating cost that allows our staff of over 90 members to provide services to over 300 children and families, support nearly a thousand volunteers, and train over 1,000 college and career students each year.

Little Light House believes that all children are a gift from God with the potential to achieve specific milestones to advance their quality of life. We strive for excellence by utilizing a Bible-based curriculum in a fun and loving atmosphere. We believe in an individualized, trans-disciplinary and God-centered approach to education-an approach that joins parents, professionals, and the Holy Spirit as partners in order to nurture the spirit, mind, and body of the children and their families. Our commitment incorporates being called to work/volunteer with children with special needs. Little Light House encourages a positive outlook on the future, based on trust in a loving heavenly Father.
