A Message From Henry Connell

Hi it's me Henry and this is one of my best buddies Tristan! Tristan and I were in the same class last year and get to be in the same class again this year and I am so very excited! This is my second year to be a SKIP kid at The Little Light House. SKIP stands for Staff Kid Inclusion Program. Isn't that so cool that I get to be with friends every day and help teach and encourage and show them how to do things that may be hard for them...like walk and talk and sort things and climb things and count things and at the same time they teach me things too..like love and patience and determination and how to be a really good friend to everyone and that we all have different abilities and talents that God has given each of us! If you haven't heard about The Little Light House before let me tell you a little about it... Did you know that it is a school for kids with special needs? The grown-ups say it’s real important for us to start learning early. There’s even a list of kids waiting to come to my school...that’s how great it is. We have special teachers and therapists that help us learn what we need to know. Some of us need special equipment to help us learn and we all love the toys made especially for kids like us. Everyone is so nice and we have lots of fun together. I wish everyone could go to a school like mine. It costs a lot of money to get all the things we need at our school. Some schools make the moms and dads pay for school...but not mine! My friends get to go for FREE!! Isn't that amazing! My school doesn’t get any money from the government or United Way. All of the money we get comes from individual and corporate donors. Some grown-ups think it’s so amazing that all of the money comes from private donations. I think they are right. I’m too little to have a job to give money, but I can still help my school! The big people get to run in “Miles for Milestones”, but since I am still small, my school has a “Mini-Laps” race that I can do. I get to go around the track at my school one time. My friends will be there, too. Some of us will run or walk, some will ride bikes or scooters. Some of my friends get to ride in their wheelchairs or in a wagon. It is so much fun, I hope you can come and watch me on October 10th! I need people to sponsor me when I make my lap, so I can help my school. If you would like to make a donation, you can give a check to my parents (made out to TLLH) before Tuesday, October 6th. You can also send it in the mail to the Little Light House at 5120 E. 36th St Tulsa, OK 74135 or make a donation on my webpage! Make sure you tell them my name so they will know that you are sponsoring me. Because my school is a 501(c)(3) organization, your contribution is tax deductible...whatever that means! Make sure to check out the video attached to see my sister signing a song and pictures of me and all my friends at my awesome school!!

In Support of Little Light House

Little Light House is a Christian Developmental Center for Children with Special Needs from birth to 6 years old. Tulsa’s Little Light House is internationally recognized as providing some of the most individualized special education and therapeutic early intervention services in the world. A trans-disciplinary team approach maximizes a comprehensive knowledge from professionals who work collaboratively to design prescriptive programs for each child and assist every child in reaching their maximum potential. Through a variety of programs and schedules, these services are carried out by highly credentialed teachers, therapists, and specialists who represent decades of pediatric experience. Early Intervention classes are provided as a part-time program where caregivers attend and learn along with their child for two-hour classes once a week.

Little Light House is tuition-free for families and does not receive government or United Way funding. Support comes from individuals, organizations, corporations, and foundations. In addition, LLH hosts four annual fundraisers each year bringing in about 40% of the $4.2 million dollar operating cost that allows our staff of over 90 members to provide services to over 300 children and families, support nearly a thousand volunteers, and train over 1,000 college and career students each year.

Little Light House believes that all children are a gift from God with the potential to achieve specific milestones to advance their quality of life. We strive for excellence by utilizing a Bible-based curriculum in a fun and loving atmosphere. We believe in an individualized, trans-disciplinary and God-centered approach to education-an approach that joins parents, professionals, and the Holy Spirit as partners in order to nurture the spirit, mind, and body of the children and their families. Our commitment incorporates being called to work/volunteer with children with special needs. Little Light House encourages a positive outlook on the future, based on trust in a loving heavenly Father.
