A Message From Maddox Henry

A note from his parents: Maddox is such a brilliant and bright little boy — full of giggles, silliness, and an infectious energy. He’s genuinely a joy to be around. He can tell you ✨all✨ about dinosaurs, construction equipment, loves a pattern, & his numbers & letters. But, if I’m being honest, things aren’t always been as “easy” as they might seem — especially when reflecting on the past few years. We’ve faced so many challenges, many of which have come with unanswered questions, diagnoses, surgeries, procedures, and more appointments than I can count. So. Many. Appointments. Our days are filled with therapy — Speech, Feeding, Aquatic, OT, PT — and while it's been an incredible journey, watching Maddox grow and make huge strides in his development, regulation, and communication has been one of the greatest rewards. A huge shoutout to our amazing team of providers/providers who have helped us navigate & advocate for Maddox. If you’d asked me 18 months ago if I thought Maddox would be where he is now, I would have laughed. For those of you who are close to us, you probably already know that Maddox has been fed through a feeding tube for the past 3.5 years. Three years ago we discovered he has a rare chromosomal abnormality, and this time two years ago, he officially received his Autism level 3 diagnosis. While it wasn’t a surprise to us (IYKYK), it has been heartbreaking to see how the world can be unkind or unprepared for neurodivergent individuals. Our society isn’t set up for people with disabilities to thrive, or for families like ours to thrive — and that can be tough to navigate. In all the noise we experience as parents of a child with special needs, one place that has helped quiet it has been Little Light House. This amazing, tuition-free school for children with special needs is where real miracles happen every day. They don’t believe in “never” when it comes to a child reaching their goals — instead, they believe in “not yet.” Maddox has been attending the Little Light House since Spring 2024– starting with early intervention classes at their Family Learning Center and now attending full time in their Developmental Center. We can honestly say it’s become a place that we hold so dear. It’s a place filled with acceptance and inclusivity, where Maddox has the opportunity to grow, learn, and receive the therapy he needs — including feeding therapy alongside his private outside therapy sessions. He’s thriving in this safe, supportive environment and joyfully interacts with his peers in Orange class. Right now, they’re holding their annual Mini Laps fundraiser, and Maddox will get to take his “lap” around the track at Little Light House to celebrate all the milestones he’s reached — all while raising money for a place that has given so much to kids like him. If you feel moved to support and donate towards this school year, you can sponsor Maddox’s lap below. 👇 Your support means the world to us and to so many families like ours. Thank you for being part of our journey. 💙♾️ -Colton & Kimberlyn About Maddox: Maddox is a 4-year-old with level 3 Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and a rare chromosomal abnormality. For the past three years, he has primarily been fed through a feeding tube (G-tube) due to a laryngeal cleft, history of silent aspiration & a very strong oral/feeding aversion.

In Support of Little Light House

Little Light House is a Christian Developmental Center for Children with Special Needs from birth to 6 years old. Little Light House is internationally recognized as providing some of the most individualized special education and therapeutic early intervention services in the world. A trans-disciplinary team approach maximizes a comprehensive knowledge from professionals who work collaboratively to design prescriptive programs for each child and assist every child in reaching their maximum potential. Through a variety of programs and schedules, these services are carried out by highly credentialed teachers, therapists, and specialists who represent decades of pediatric experience. Early Intervention classes are provided as a part-time program where caregivers attend and learn along with their child for two-hour classes once a week.

Little Light House is tuition-free for families and does not receive United Way funding. Support comes from individuals, organizations, corporations, and foundations. In addition, LLH hosts four annual fundraisers each year bringing in about 40% of the $4.2 million dollar operating cost that allows our staff of over 90 members to provide services to over 300 children and families, support nearly a thousand volunteers, and train over 1,000 college and career students each year.

Little Light House believes that all children are a gift from God with the potential to achieve specific milestones to advance their quality of life. We strive for excellence by utilizing a Bible-based curriculum in a fun and loving atmosphere. We believe in an individualized, trans-disciplinary and God-centered approach to education-an approach that joins parents, professionals, and the Holy Spirit as partners in order to nurture the spirit, mind, and body of the children and their families. Our commitment incorporates being called to work/volunteer with children with special needs. Little Light House encourages a positive outlook on the future, based on trust in a loving heavenly Father.
